Nebraska OSOW Regulations (NDOT)

  • Width: 8'6"
  • Height: 14'6"
  • Length - Semi-trailer and load: 53'
  • Length - Combination trailers and load: 65'
  • Gross vehicle weight: 80,000 lbs
  • Single axle: 20,000 lbs
  • Tandem axle: 34,000 lbs
  • Tridem axle: 42,000 lbs (designated roads), 34,000 lbs (all other roads)

Routine Permit Limits

  • Width: 16' maximum
  • Height: 16' maximum (depends on route)
  • Length: 105' maximum
  • Weight: 160,000 lbs gross maximum

Superload Classification

Loads exceeding:

  • 16' wide, OR
  • 16' high, OR
  • 100' long, OR
  • 160,000 lbs gross

Permit Validity

  • Maximum 10 moving days
  • Must obtain permit prior to entering state

Escort Vehicle Requirements

When Escorts Are Required

Over Width

  • Over 12' wide: Escort/pilot car OR light bar (if listed on permit)
  • Over 16' wide: Front AND rear escort/pilot car

Over Length

  • Over 100' long: 1 pilot/escort vehicle OR light bar (if listed on permit)
  • Over 150' long: 2 pilot/escort vehicles required

Over Height

  • Over 14'6" high: Pole car escort may be required at front
  • Over 16' high: Route survey and height pole required

Light Bar Alternative

  • Compliant light bar may be allowed in lieu of escort vehicle
  • On divided highways when stated in permit

Operating Times

Standard Hours

  • 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset
  • Including Saturday and Sunday
  • Continuous travel allowed

Lincoln and Omaha Metro Restrictions

No travel on state highways (except I-80):

  • Weekdays: 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Saturdays and Sundays: After 12:00 noon
