Nevada OSOW Regulations (NDOT)

  • Width: 8'6"
  • Height: 14'
  • Length: 75' (single vehicle), 70' (combination)
  • Gross vehicle weight: 80,000 lbs

Permit Types and Costs

Five-Day Permit

  • Cost: $25
  • Duration: Valid for 5 days from date of issuance
  • Ideal for: One-off or infrequent shipments requiring temporary access to Nevada's roads

Annual Permits

  • Duration: Valid for one year from date of issue
  • Cost: Contact NDOT for specific annual permit fees

Commodity Permits

  • Purpose: Allows legal dimension reducible loads up to 70' in length to run over 80,000 lbs but with legal axle weights

Application: Permits may be obtained online using NDOT's Over Dimensional Vehicle Permitting System at odvp.dot.nv.gov

Payment Methods: Credit card, debit card, or electronic check

Note: Additional coordination within NDOT and with other agencies is normally required for certain cases, and additional costs may be incurred and billed to the permittee.

Escort Vehicle Requirements

Certification Requirement

  • Nevada requires P/EVO certification
  • Must complete certification to escort oversize/overweight loads

When Escorts Are Required

Over Width

  • Over 14' wide: 1 escort vehicle required
  • Over 16' wide: 2 escorts required
  • Over 17' wide: May require additional escorts and coordination with Highway Patrol

Over Height

  • Over 15'6" high: High-pole escort required
  • High-pole escort vehicle equipped with pole to measure overhead clearances

Special Area Requirements - Hoover Dam Area

Width 8'6" to 10' (maximum allowed):

  • 2 escorts required

Penalties and Fines

Violating permit provisions:

  • Misdemeanor for violating any provisions of NRS 484D.685 to 484D.740

Operating without permit:

  • Unlawful to operate or move any vehicle or equipment over any highway without first obtaining a permit
  • Violation of any terms or conditions of the permit when issued

Permit Violations

Exceeding weight authorized by permit:

  • Operating under continuous use or multiple trip permit
  • Punishment: As provided in NRS 484D.680 upon conviction
