When Escorts Are Required
Over Width
- Over 12' wide: 1 escort pilot car
- Over 14' wide: 2 escort pilot cars
Over Height
- 15'9" or more: 2 escorts (front and rear)
Over Length
- Over 80' on two-lane highways: Front escort required
- Over 100' on two-lane highways: 2 escorts (front and rear) required
Escort Vehicle Equipment
- AAMVA-approved rotating or flashing amber beacon OR flashing amber light bar
- Must be mounted on top of escort vehicle
- Visibility: Must be visible from 500 feet in normal sunlight
Operating Times
Standard Hours
- Daylight hours only: 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset
Overweight Only
- Continuous travel available
- Must be requested when ordering permit
