Oklahoma OSOW Regulations (ODOT)

  • Width: 8'6"

  • Length: 53' (semitrailers)
  • Gross vehicle weight: 80,000 lbs
  • Single axle: 20,000 lbs
  • Tandem axle: 34,000 lbs

Certification Requirement

  • Oklahoma requires P/EVO certification
  • Pilot/Escort operators must be trained and certified according to MUTCD
  • Must attend escort vehicle certification course
  • Must successfully pass escort vehicle certification examination

Permit Validity

  • 3 days

Escort Vehicle Requirements

When Escorts Are Required

Over Width

  • Over 12' wide: 1 escort pilot car
  • Over 14' wide: 2 escort pilot cars

Over Height

  • 15'9" or more: 2 escorts (front and rear)

Over Length

  • Over 80' on two-lane highways: Front escort required
  • Over 100' on two-lane highways: 2 escorts (front and rear) required

Escort Vehicle Equipment

  • AAMVA-approved rotating or flashing amber beacon OR flashing amber light bar
  • Must be mounted on top of escort vehicle
  • Visibility: Must be visible from 500 feet in normal sunlight

Operating Times

Standard Hours

  • Daylight hours only: 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset

Overweight Only

  • Continuous travel available
  • Must be requested when ordering permit
