Escort Vehicle Requirements

When Escorts Are Required

At Commissioner discretion or when meeting/exceeding:

  • 12' wide or greater
  • 80' long or greater
  • 15' overhang or greater

Escort Vehicle Positioning

  • Undivided highways: Escort shall precede load
  • Divided highways: Escort shall follow load

Operating Times

Standard Hours

  • 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset

Overweight Only (Capable of Traffic Flow Speed)

  • Not restricted to daylight travel time

  • Vermont is a member of the multistate permit agreement with:
